After crossing the border, we decided to make straight for Amman as we were hoping to go on to Israel from there and return to Amman after that to continue south through Jordan to Egypt. Why from Amman? Because while there are other border crossing points from Jordan to Israel, the one from Amman (the King Hussein Bridge, some 40 Km away) is the only one through which you can cross and come back without receiving any Jordan entry or exit stamps in your passport (provided that you return within the time of the Jordan visa you received when you crossed into Jordan-at any point OTHER than the King Hussein Bridge). This is important, because such entry and exit stamps would constitute “evidence of having visited Israel” for those countries which have not signed any peace treaty or the like with Israel, and in which it is an offence to have visited there, thus preventing entrance to the concerned country.

シリアから国境を越えてヨルダンに入ったあと、その足で首都アンマンに 向かった。ここからはヨルダンを南下してエジプトへと進む予定だけど、その前にアンマンからイスラエルへ行き、またアンマンに戻ってくることにしていた。 ヨルダンとイスラエルの間にはいくつか国境地点があるけれど、アンマンから約40キロのキングフセイン橋国境は、ヨルダン入国時にもらったビザ（日本人は ビザ不要のためスタンプ）に書かれている有効滞在期間内にイスラエルに行って戻ってくれば、新たなビザも必要なく、ヨルダンの出入国スタンプをパスポート に押されずに済む。これはキングフセイン橋でのみ可能で、私たちにとっては旅を続けていくためにものすごーく重要なこと。なぜなら、ヨルダン－イスラエル 国境地点で、ヨルダンの出入国スタンプが押されてしまうと、「私、イスラエルに行きました」という証拠がパスポートにバッチリと残ってしまい、イスラエル と敵対関係にある国々にとっては「不快な行為を行ったヤツら」として、その後は入国を拒否されてしまうから。そうなると私たちにとっては大問題なのです。 (続きを読む…)
